NGC 1788

Lurking in a less-imaged corner of the constellation of Orion lies NGC 1788 - the bright area towards the top right of this image. Although classed as a reflection nebula, NGC 1788 and the surrounding area are rich in hydrogen alpha emission. This image represents 9.5 hrs of 600s subframes through my 3nm H-alpha filter only and is thus a monochrome image - I have still to collect broad-band colour data. Unfortunately, this region is currently too low in the sky to image properly (May 2025) so I’m looking forward to collecting the colour data during the spring and summer months towards the end of 2025 in order to finish this image.
